The Inchture Area Community Council is a group of volunteers from the area who work together to assist with any queries from local people. Our area covers Inchture, Baledgarno, Abernyte, Ballindean, Kinnaird, Rait, Kilspindie, Pitroddie and in between. We work closely with our Local Councillors, Perth & Kinross Council, and the Police to monitor and improve any issues which affect our everyday lives. Topics can include Planning, Roads & Transport, Education and Trees & Environment.

We want to make sure that we represent the views of as many people as possible, and so Community Councillors will be present to listen to the community views on the proposals of the Halfway Energy Park development in the following sessions:.
Monday 7th September - Inchture Village Hall, Small Hall 10:30-17:30
Tuesday 8th September - Errol Village Hall, Small Hall 12:00-19:00

The developer held drop-in sessions in September showing their plans for the first time. The four Carse Community Councils (Inchture Area CC, Longforgan CC, Errol CC and West Carse CC) booked the small hall to be present in a parallel session. We collected community opinion in person, speaking with many members of the community, after seeing the developers plans. Estimated numbers for the drop in sessions were ~200 people on each of the days, despite the sessions being primarily during working hours. We had an online questionnaire form to help understand the views of the community. The results of the data are:

Biodiversity Updates
Pollinator Surveys - This summer, Bee and butterfly surveys are being carried out in Inchture and in several Orchards across the Carse iwith Buglife and local volunteers. In Inchture, the survey walking route is from the Redwoods Field through the Grassy Park to the big SuDS pond. On the walk we record any pollinators that can be seen along the way. If you want to volunteer to join bee and butterfly walks, please contact us, or Neil Clapperton at Buglife.
Bat Surveys - There are three bat detectors on loan with us from Tayside Biodiversity. Volunteer Bat surveys at the Redwoods Field, and the big SuDS pond have shown a numerous bats, and several different species. If you wish to borrow the a bat detector, please contact us.
Planter by the School - Over the summer, the planter between the School and The Shack has been flowering and buzzing with pollinators including Bumble bees, Carder Bees and Red Mason Bees. Thanks to volunteers who have been watering the planter during the intense heatwaves. Thank you to neighbours and The Shack for giving access to their tap to fill up watering cans.
Flower bed behind The Shack - In April 2026, the flowerbed on the path behind The Shack connecting Moncur Road and Flower of Monorgan Close was planted up with pollinator friendly flowers. Euphorbia, Ajuga, Lythrum, Filipendula, Rudbeckia to name a few. Thanks to Balfour Beatie and SSE for supporting the project. Volunteers, and the After School Club planted the flowers, and painted rocks for a border. Please feel welcome to add your own painted rocks to the border. A new 'Bed for Bees' sign has been added to mark the flowerbed.
Grassy Park Wildflower bed - In 2025, an area of wildflowers was prepared at the Grassy Park by volunteers and the nursery. During the 2026 pollinator surveys these areas were buzzing with pollinators.
Community Orchards
Inchture Grassy Park Orchard - In March 2025, the Grassy Park orchard was planted with apple, pear and cherry trees from Perth and Kinross Council. The blossom was beautiful in the spring. The fruit will be available for any community to pick and enjoy once the fruit is ripe.
New 'Orchard Way Orchards' Project - The Local Place Plan highlighted a strong support for more community orchards. We are reviewing the feasibility of adding Orchards along the larger grassy areas of Orchard Way. This questionnaire form is surveying neighbours and gathering thoughts on the different spaces, current uses and what planting would be preferred. Please share your thoughts or concerns, and volunteer support for planting or watering in the form.
Wester Ballindean Community Orchard - The historic Wester Ballindean Orchard is now a community orchard. An initial tree assessment, clearing of paths, a new pond, pollinator, plant and fungi surveys and fruit picking have been underway. Visit the "Wester Ballindean Community Heritage Orchard" Facebook Page for updates.
Green Julian Place Parks4Life funding - Inchture Area Community Council has received £1,500 from Parks4Life Community Fund for improving Green Julian Place grassy square. New flowerbeds, tree planting, a mixed hedgerow, willow weaving structure and a wooden seating area is being considered with support from the PKC Greenspaces team.
Look out for posts on the village Facebook pages "Inchture Area Newsletter" and "Soil Society - Inchture + Area" to get involved. Thanks to Ola and all of the community volunteers for their efforts.
